LYNN CANYON Water-Walk Hike to Suspension Bridge, 30 ft Pool & Twin Falls

Lynn Canyon Park is the home of several stunning hiking trails. The North side of the suspension bridge will take us to a marvellous 30-Foot pool with a swimming hole. From there a very large stairway will take us to the Northern region of the park, the Seymour Demonstration Forest and Rice Lake park. Twin Falls is East of the suspension bridge past the Lynn Canyon Café and follows the trail down towards the river. A short walk will take us to the Twin Falls Bridge which offers a beautiful view of a waterfall and large pool below. The forest is very evocative and haunting - no wonder they made so many films here like X-Men 3 and Battlestar Galactica!

BOWEN ISLAND Ferry from Horse-Shoe Bay, Food tasting, Artisan Village & Marina

Bowen Island is just a 20-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. On this quiet, forested island of 52sq km water lovers enjoy kayaking around Bowen Island's sheltered bays, swimming at sandy beaches, and mooring their boats at local marinas. Bowen Island burgeons with artists and art galleries and acclaimed writers, from Michael Ondaatje to Nick Bantock, have resided here.  Until the 1950s, the Union Steamship Company transported visitors to Bowen Island for dancing on moonlight cruises, horseback riding, lawn bowling, and general revelry. Now we can dilly-dally happily with artwork, jewellery, fair-trade goods, and Mediterranean and West Coast food in Village Square, Artisan Square, and the Marina on the Pier. Bring your favourite food to share at our popular lake picnic!

BUNTZEN LAKE Moss-Covered Rain-Forests, Giant Ferns, Pebble Beaches, Sandy Coves

Buntzen Lake Reservoir has amazing settings, hiking trails and cooling waters. It is indeed a miracle of nature with hauntingly beautiful rainforests dripping with fresh green moss, mystical landscapes with cascading waterfalls, glacier-blue rivulets and streams with their rockpools and smooth round stones. A myriad of kayaks and canoes can be seen floating along the bays and sandy coves of this turquoise lake. This will be a purely laugh and have fun day with a gorgeous 3 hour hike along the lake, a potluck picnic and lazing on the beach for our sociable minglers.

CAPILANO RIVER Hike thru Giant Trees along River, Cleveland Dam, Fish Hatchery

Capilano River Regional Park has a myriad beautiful hiking trails that lead to giant trees beside the Capilano River, a popular fishing and kayaking locale and the towering Cleveland Dam. The Giant Fir Trail leads to the largest Fir in the Park, over 500 years old and over sixty-one meters tall. The flowing Capilano River dissects this park which has towering trees, banana slugs and fish struggling to get upstream to the nearby Fish Hatchery (which also sees scores of fishermen trying their luck). Visitors get to spy on the fry through glass walls that surround their tanks. It’s like a giant aquarium set in a rock canyon. The Ranger Pool in the river canyon which is moderately steep in places has an over-storey of tall evergreens, combined with a mass of ferns that carpet the forest floor. One of the great joys of visiting here is the quiet that permeates the atmosphere. Even when it’s raining the branches of the forest are so sheltering that much of the moisture never reaches the ground.

MINNEKHADA PARK Peaceful Marshes inhabited by Wildlife & Panoramic Lookouts

Minnekhada (a Sioux word meaning water rattling by) is a 200 hectare park located in North-Eastern Coquitlam not far from the Pitt River. The 10 km trails weave through grassy meadows, temperate rain forests, upper and lower marshes, five lookouts and the historic Minnekhada Lodge built in 1934 and visited by Queen Elizabeth who stayed there for a while. The picturesque marsh is one of Minnekhada Region Park's biggest draws with its beautiful views of the mountains and forests and is home to dozens of species of birds and many animals. Although bear sightings are common, you will also see the lodges, dams and canals built by the beavers who have conquered the marshes but live peacefully with the minnows and dragonfly nymphs.

LIGHTHOUSE PARK Spirit-walk through Giant Trees in Ancient Forest to Rugged Rocks

Of all the numerous parks in the Lower Mainland, Lighthouse Park could be considered the most spiritual. The park contains the last stand of old growth forest in the area. Standing amongst these quiet giants and looking straight up to see their tops, it is easy to be open to nature's many blessings and to wish their continuity. Lighthouse Park, 12km south of Horseshoe Bay, is 75 hectares of the most original and most rugged of the North Shore's parks. Stunning views, and more than 60 bird species spotted here. Hikes through one of the few remaining original forests in Greater Vancouver end at Point Atkinson with its lighthouse.

DEER LAKE Photo-Walk of Flower-Filled Gardens, Canoeing, Kayaking, Boating on Lake

Deer Lake Park offers a peaceful natural environment in the heart of the city. The trails meander around the lake and through unique meadows and woodlands. The vegetation natural to the area is temperate rainforest dominated by conifers. These trails connect the lake and its surrounding forests and fields to: a boat launch and pier, picnic sites, a beach area, a viewing tower, the Burnaby Art Gallery, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum, and Century Gardens, all offering lovely scenery. Don't miss the Century Gardens, with hundreds of rhododendrons bursting in bloom every spring.

BRANDYWINE FALLS Wildly Cascading 70m Waterfall, Panoramic Lakes & Mountains

Trip to Whistler BC to visit the spectacular Brandywine Falls Regional Park including a hike to a panoramic viewpoint to see the marvellous Daisy Lake and splendid mountains. This beautiful nature reserve was tripled  in size in 2010 to include a unique habitat for the endangered red-legged frogs. The Brandywine falls drops approximately 70m and the surround ing cavern features rockslides that have crumbled from the walls over hundreds of years. This volcanic niche dates back to basaltic lava flows over 32,000 years ago and i s truly a wonder of mother nature! Take in some sun on the warm rocks next to the flowing waters where we will spread out our potluck picnic.

GOLDEN EARS PARK Twin Peak Mountains, Spectacular Lakes & Rugged Landscapes

The Golden Ears Provincial Park is named after the prominent twin peaks of Mount Blanshard, commonly referred to as Golden Ears. It is one of the largest parks in BC and has breathtaking scenery. A myriad hiking trails weave through spectacular lakes and waterfalls perfect for exploring by foot or on horseback. Alouette Lake is a popular spot for swimming, windsurfing, water-skiing, canoeing, boating and fishing. The forests are shaded with the BC giants - the coastal Western Hemlocks - and the mountainous backcountry is extremely rugged.
